Machu Picchu is found in the Andes of Peru. Adventurous travelers can hike the Inca trail for 4 days and camp along the way. Another option is to hike a portion of the trail for a day and not have to camp out a night.
There is a scenic train that many opt for, even if you hike one way. You will likely take the train back to Cucso after you have dazzled at the ruins, gotten up close to some llamas or alpacas, and created your own theories about how and why this area was originally built.
There is more to do in Peru than just see Machu Picchu. The entire sacred valley is beautiful and interesting, Cusco is a city easy to wander around in, and there are museums, cooking classes, and chocolate tours to try!
